blink

Sometimes you just blink and things can change. Sometimes it comes slowly (you know, like the good things to those who wait).  Sometimes i just get glimpses in between the blinks...of possibilities that may or may not ever come to fruition. In any case, I think my life right now is a little bit of a blink and a little bit blind... and i feel all sorts of craziness in those dark and light moments:

  • I might have the opportunity to go to Slovenia and bring Multnomah students to run an English camp
  • I might get to go to Columbia this summer to work with young girls who've been prostitutes.
  • I met John Perkins, a man who began to shape my thinking of justice and community development nearly 10 years ago. We got to talk for a bit and I may be traveling to Mississippi sometime to work with him!
  • I got to go to a conference in Portland about justice and get stoked that there are like-minded and like-hearted people in my backyard...a city that  i think will be very influential in the christian community in the years to come.
  • I got some news from work this week that make we wonder why, where, who and when and makes me thankful, angry, sad and expectant.
  • I keep accepting that I want something badly, but that I might not really even want what i want if what i really want is what He wants...so i just don't know.
  • I get to be on the intercession team for a NPO that a man from church started to work to bring an end to human trafficking and i'm stoked that this is the way i can be involved right now...and curious if there will be another way in the future.
  • There is a glimmer of hope that my leadership students at Madison High School will choose to be leaders even if it won't come easy.

it's comin'

my craziness is about to begin!!!  I meet up with the STUGO 2008-2009 team on Wednesday night!! They have a bit of a surprise in store for the night (i'll tell you afterward) that I think will be a stretch for many and an awesome opportunity to serve as a team!  We will leave Thursday morning for Cannon Beach for our team retreat and be gone through Monday evening. I would love prayer for our team as we train, learn, laugh and live together for those few days!

obama delivered poolside

so i'm sitting poolside enjoy a hot summer-like day and i hear this voice amplified coming from the waterfront. I thought maybe the blues festival was starting up...come to find out that Obama is speaking at the waterfront and it's his voice that i'm hearing...suddenly the helicopters made sense!  They're saying that this could be the most significant Oregon primary in years...but for those of us who our independents we get to sit back and watch it all unfold. Though I don't know who i'll vote for, for months my money's been on obama to win. It seems our country longs to be inspired and to hope again...and it's pretty phenomenal and at times frightening to watch the power of rhetoric and charisma. I wasn't alive when Kennedy had the White House, but I wonder if the youthful hope and power of speech is something reminiscent of his days. So come November...we'll see i'm right!
